The official flag of Berlin has three stripes of red-white-red, the two outer stripes each occupying a fifth of its height, the middle the remaining three fifths. It is emblazoned with a bear on the civil flag, while it bears the coat of arms of Berlin on the state flag.

Designed by Ottfried Neubecker and adopted in 1954 for West Berlin, this design became the sole official flag for the reunified city-state in 1990, replacing the distinct flag previously used by East Berlin. The bear symbolizes the city's historical identity and resilience, with its red tongue and claws adding heraldic detail. While a separate state flag (Landesdienstflagge) displaying the full coat of arms with a crown was used by government authorities until 2007, it has since been abolished, leaving the bear-only design as the single standard for all civic and official purposes.
