The SADF Artillery traced its roots back to the establishment of the Union of South Africa in 1910. In 1934, the South African Artillery Corps was formed, incorporating all Permanent Force and Citizen Force artillery units. During World War II, the SADF Artillery saw action in North Africa and Italy, where it earned a reputation for its accuracy and effectiveness.
In 1994, the SADF was disbanded and replaced by the SANDF. The SADF Artillery was integrated into the SANDF as the South African Army Artillery Formation. Today, the South African Army Artillery Formation continues to provide fire support to the SANDF, and it has also participated in peacekeeping missions in Africa.
